A quieter release: better suggestions from a more complete picture of your Drive
Last release brought a lot of new things at once. This time we spent two weeks on the foundations instead. Almost every change below is a fix: Filently now sees folders it missed before, keeps filing in cases where it used to stop, and keeps your folder names and instructions exactly as you wrote them. You get better suggestions, and fewer surprises. Signing in is also quicker now.
New Features
Quicker sign-in with Google
Until now, Google showed its permission screen every time you signed in, although you approved it on your first visit. Now you only pick your Google account and you are in. Filently still asks for permission when you connect or reconnect Google Drive.
Bug Fixes
Folders on shared drives: on a shared drive, Filently only saw the folders that you had opened yourself. A folder a colleague made, and everything below it, could never be suggested. Filently now reads the whole shared drive.
Folders with many folders inside: Filently skipped every folder inside a folder that held more than 150 of them, such as one folder per client. It now reads up to 2,000, and it always reads every folder directly inside your filing location. Your plan's folder limit still applies.
Folder names with a slash: Filently read a folder such as
2024/2025as two folders, so its path kept growing and an undo could rebuild the wrong folders. It now stays one folder.Filing into your top folder: choosing “Use This Folder” on the first screen of the folder browser made the filing fail. It now works.
New folder from a suggestion: filing one document into a new suggested folder through the bulk filing dialog saved only the last part of the path, for example
Receiptsinstead ofFinance/Receipts. It now saves the full path.Filing many documents at once: when one document could not be filed, Activity did not show it. It now lists that document with the reason, for example that the file no longer exists in Google Drive.
Long folder paths: a long path pushed the content past the edge of the filing windows. The path is now shortened to fit.
Custom instructions: saving removed placeholders in angle brackets, such as
INV_<ISSUER>_<YYYYMMDD>, and joined your lines. Both now stay as you wrote them, and Filently uses the placeholders when it names your files.Uploading a file again: a file whose upload you cancelled was reported as "already exists" on the next try. It now uploads.
